Abstract
Unsaturated polyester (UPE) is a popular thermosetting petroleum-derived polymer which has created a special feature for high-performance polymer owing to its applications in the field of transportation, marine, construction, electrical, and corrosion. It is also used in the preparation of diverse items as chemical processing equipment, missile shells, rocket motor cases, decorative furniture casting, and safety helmets. Here the present chapter focuses mainly on the unique properties of UPE as well as preparation of a hybrid UPE nanocomposite incorporated with chemically functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) and functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (f-GNPs) through solution mixing procedure. Again, we try to compile the detailed preparation, characterization technique of both functionalized nanofillers, and the hybrid UPE nanocomposites with focus on the effect of nanofillers loading. Incorporation of f-MWCNTsand f-GNPs hybrid into UPE created large surface area that resulted strong interfacial adhesion between the efficient hybrid nanofillers networks and the matrices. Thorough analysis of the results represented the formation ...
