I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Whether you are leading a team, a division (several teams) or an organisation (several divisions), you need to have some level of strategic focus in order to get the best out of your people. Both you and they need to understand the bigger picture and how their efforts fit within it. This then is the final piece of the jigsaw in becoming a brilliant leader.
Virtually every aspect of strategic focus covered in this chapter should be regarded as a leadership ‘C’ task, as discussed in Chapter 5. It is not merely enough to think about these strategic matters but you must also find time to work on them so that your staff get the direction they need. ...
