The strategic planning process

Fundamental to the development of effective strategy is the understanding that strategy is a process. The strategic planning process is not something that starts and finishes with the periodic production of a glossy strategy document. Unless there is a well-managed process that allows continuous learning, strategy is an exercise in wishful thinking. Over the years we have developed an approach to strategic planning called the strategic development process or Strategy Roundabouts. This is based on the strategic thinking process that we explored in Part 1, but this time it is a collaborative rather than individual activity.
