Nearly half of humanity lives in urban conglomerates. Though they are economic prime movers of society, they are becoming the cause of environmental concerns too. Thus, monitoring the positive and the negative effects of urban areas is becoming critical day by day, for making cities more sustainable, energetic places to live in. Land use and land covers are the two important agents of these favourable or adverse effects.
