The United Nations
The tragedy of the Second World War created in the minds of the people a deep resentment against war. Prominent leaders of the world felt it was necessary to form a world body consisting of all states to prevent further wars of this magnitude. As early as in 1941, attempts were made to form an international organization. After several rounds of discussion and negotiation, the United Nations Organization was finally established in 1945 with fifty-one member-states. It was, of course, not the first international organization in the world. After the First World War, a world body known as the League of Nations was formed in 1919. But it failed to maintain international peace and harmony due to its structural and functional weaknesses. ...
