Foreword
It is a rare treat to be asked to write a foreword to the sixth edition of Doug Comer's now classic book on TCP/IP and the Internet. In 2012, there are nearly 3 billion people on line. Something like 6.5 billion mobile phones are in use and many of these are “smart phones” that have access to the Internet via the wireless telephone network and through Wi-Fi. In fact, the wireless systems are diverting traffic to Wi-Fi when this is possible in order to shed load.
