Superalloys are a group of nickel, iron–nickel and cobalt alloys used in aircraft turbine engines for their exceptional heat-resistant properties. Materials used in jet engines must perform for long periods of time in a demanding environment involving high temperature, high stress and hot corrosive gas. Many materials simply cannot survive the severe conditions in the hottest sections of engines, where the temperatures reach ~ 1300 °C.
