It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The foundation of modern wireless communication systems is digital communication. The mapping of digital information onto waveforms at the transmitter is known as digital modulation. The extraction of the transmitted digital information from the noisy received signal is known as digital demodulation.
