Solved ProblemS
Problem 1
The adsorption of a dye from its solution by charcoal is governed by Freundlich isotherm with n = 2.0 and k = 4.5. If 1.0 g of charcoal powder be shaken with 100 ml of 0.2 (M) solution of the dye, what will be the equilibrium concentration of the dye? Let the molecular weight of the dye be 150.
SOLUTION
![]()
Here ‘c’ is the equilibrium concentration =
where wi = initial amount of dye present in 100 ml solution.
Now m = 1.0 g,
∴ x = 4.5
or, x2 = 0.405 – 0.135x
or = 0.572 g
= 3.81 × 10–3 mole.
The equilibrium concentration ...
