LINKING AN INDIVIDUAL ARTICLE TO THE MENU

The simplest way to create a menu item in Joomla is to link one article to the menu on your website. Let's look at the About portion of the website. Referring back to our site map, the About portion of the website consists of a top-level menu item called About Fictitious Elementary School. Three articles also appear in this portion of the website: Faculty & Staff; History; and Mission, Vision, and Philosophy. These three articles should appear underneath the main About article for the site. This arrangement is frequently called subnavigation, as the items appear underneath the main navigation for the website. You may also hear it called secondary navigation, as this is the second level of the website. Likewise, the third level of the site is referred to as tertiary navigation, which reflects subnavigation for the subnavigation! We do not have tertiary navigation in the About portion of the website, but we do have secondary navigation.

Let's start by creating the first navigation item, the link to About Fictitious Elementary School. In the back end of Joomla, go to Menus images Main Menu. You should see a screen similar to the one shown in Figure 13-1. (If you have Joomla's sample data installed, you may see more menus and menu items listed on your site.)
