CREATING AND CONFIGURING THE NEWSFLASH MODULE

Next, let's try configuring the Newsflash module. Go to Extensions Module Manager, click the New button, and choose Newsflash from the list. You should see a configuration screen similar to the one shown in Figure 19-6.

On the left side of the screen, set the Title to Newsflash, set Show Title to Yes, set Enabled to Yes, and set Position to Right. Under Menu Assignments, choose the Select Menu Item radio button, and then assign this module to the Parent Notices page. I'd like to list the News as a Newsflash module on the Parent Notices page, and list Parent Notices as a Newsflash module on the News page.

On the right side of the screen, you will see the following options:

• Category: This is a dropdown, so it's easier to find the category you want than hunting for the ID in the Category Manager! However, only one category of information is allowed, rather than multiple categories. From the dropdown, choose Latest/2010 (which means the Latest section, the 2010 category).
• Layout: There are three options from which to choose. Horizontal and Vertical are self-explanatory. The number of articles displayed is specified in “# of Articles” further down in the parameters. “Randomly choose one at a time” will pick an article at random ...
