All Joomla developers eventually compile a list of favorite extensions, as well as favorite extension developers. I've listed some of these in this appendix, with a link to the developer's web site.
In the course of evaluating extensions, my longtime engineer and friend, Bill Tomczak, and I have developed Bill and Jen's Coding Theorem. This theorem says that if the HTML and CSS are of good quality, the PHP is also of good quality. We have yet to find an exception to this rule in all of our years of looking at web sites and extensions.
The extensions in this appendix have made both of us either mostly happy or completely happy when using them. I hope you will find them useful as well.
This section describes two extensions I always install as soon as I'm done installing Joomla: JoomlaPack and JCE. And I install Mass Content on 90% of the sites I build.
JoomlaPack, described extensively in Chapter 15, is a must-have for any Joomla site. It enables you to create a backup of all Joomla files (including images) plus your Joomla database. It also features an easy way to restore sites from backup. This restoration process is useful for moving a site from one server (usually a development server) to the final production server.
