It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

The utility ignores hang-ups and quits. The command continues to run after logout.

The C shell has its own version of this command.
It does not handle pipes well.

$ nohup ls -R / | grep bu > /tmp/bufiles # Continues to run after exit $ exit
