ON JANUARY 25, 2011, a revolution erupted in cities across Egypt. Millions of protesters took to the streets demanding free elections and redress from police brutality, high unemployment, political corruption, and rampant inflation.
The protests started peacefully, but quickly escalated to violent conflict with security forces loyal to Hosni Mubarak. Hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries were reported in the ensuing days.
