A Better Approach
A more sensible approach to leading a high-performance team can be seen in what I term the Team Effectiveness Leadership Model, or TELM.2
The TELM is based on a model, originally developed by Richard Hackman, that has been used for much research on groups and teams over the last twenty years. It includes my modifications and has been developed primarily through field research, and it provides the underlying structure for the Leadership and High-Performance Teams program now offered by CCL.
There have been controlled experimental studies validating portions of the TELM, but the principal development and validation has been completed using actual high-performance teams operating in their own situational contexts.
