When embarking on an expedition, it is always useful to have a map. A conceptual map I have found helpful is shown in the Leadership Development Process. It depicts a systematic process consisting of five stages:
Assessment. Who are you now?
Vision. Who do you want to be?
Overcoming barriers. What are the obstacles that stand in your way, and how can they be overcome?
Action. What are the specific steps needed to move toward your vision?
Sustaining. How will you deal with setbacks and maintain momentum?
