Chapter Sixteen. Layer Blend Mode Magic in Photoshop
In Photoshop’s Layers palette, there are 25 blend modes to choose from in the pull-down menu, but when it comes to image editing in Photoshop, I would promote really only five of these for photographic images: Multiply, Screen, Overlay, Color, and Luminosity. These are the ones I use most in my day-to-day work. Develop a little background on how and when to use these, and they will become valued tools to make your editing more efficient.
By default, the Normal blend mode is active (FIGURE 16.1). Using blending does mean you need to have at least two layers in the stack to effectively intermingle the effects produced by the blending process.
