LTE and the Evolution to 4G Wireless: Design and Measurement Challenges, 2nd Edition
by Moray Rumney, Agilent Technologies
Chapter 6
Design and Verification Challenges
6.1 Introduction
The material in this chapter was the motivation for writing this book. Agilent is actively involved in developing the design and measurement tools the LTE industry needs to efficiently turn LTE concepts into deployed and operational systems. Although the process of developing the radio equipment for a new standard is complex and no one model captures everything, Figure 6.1-1 is an attempt to define the product development lifecycle and provides the outline for this chapter.
Figure 6.1-1. Example development lifecycle
This chapter is divided into fifteen major sections, shown in Table 6.1-1, each addressing different aspects of the lifecycle. Section 6.2 begins with design simulation. The complexity of communication systems is continuring to rise, and correspondingly the value of simulation early in the lifecycle is increasingly important. The ability to integrate electronic design automation (EDA) tools with instruments to stimulate, measure, and emulate hardware subsystems extends the reach of simulation tools further into the design lifecycle. This section offers numerous examples of how Agilent’s EDA tools and other instruments can be used to overcome design and verification challenges in the earliest phases of product development.
