Abstract
The pace of urbanization in India has gathered steam and marched toward to hit a peak in the coming years. The urban region now holds one-third of the population and vows to move further. Even after initiating various policies to deal with surging transportation needs, India fails to rank at par with its peers. Failure to recognize and adopt new and emerging technologies in transportation costs India more than any other country. Intelligent transportation system (ITS) can be utilized to get rid of inefficiencies and congestion in Indian Infrastructure. It contains an expression involving information technologies, like data storage management, artificial vision, communications, control systems, sensors, etc. ITS attempts to streamline the operation of cars by managing traffic, assisting drivers with safety and other information, and providing passenger and road safety convenience applications. The future of transportation lies in the following technologies: smart infrastructure, rideshare, mobility on demand, workforce development, connected vehicles, big data and analytics, and self-driving vehicles.
