In 1958, Frank Rosenblatt, then a researcher at Cornell, revealed "the first machine which [was] capable of having an original idea." [Lef19]. At the time, Rosenblatt’s primitive machine, which learned to identify markings on punch cards, was dubbed a "Frankenstein Monster Designed by Navy That Thinks." [Met21].
