Mathematical notation

We have used a relatively standard mathematical notation. It is expected that the reader has an undergraduate level of understanding of basic concepts of calculus, linear algebra, optimization, and probability theory. Nevertheless, we try to explain the concepts while introducing the formulations.

We represent vectors with lower case bold Roman letters such as x. While x is a column vector, its transpose ${\mathbf{x}}^{\top }$ is a row vector. A row vector with M elements can be explicitly represented with their elements, as in ${\mathbf{x}}^{\top }=({\mathbf{x}}_1,...,{\mathbf{x}}_M)$, where ...
