Co-opting a Browser: Setiri

You know, attackers don't have to poison source code to implement a trojan. Instead, they can co-opt software already installed on a system. As we saw in the section on deceptive naming, impersonating an Internet browser is a very useful Trojan horse technique, but the issue goes way beyond mere name games. In February 2002, two very bright developers pushed this trend of Trojanizing browsers to the extreme by creating a tool that they later named Setiri. After installing Setiri on a victim machine, a bad guy can remotely control the system, executing arbitrary commands on the victim's box.
