About the Contributors

Fred Anderson was appointed chief risk officer and senior advisor to the chief operating officer of Federal Student Aid (FSA) of the U.S. Department of Education, effective January 19, 2010. He serves on FSA's Operating Committee, chairs its Risk Management Committee, and is responsible for FSA's Enterprise Risk Management and related activities. Mr. Anderson has had over 35 years of Big Four accounting firm and senior leadership roles in large complex banks, governance and risk management, auditing, change management, merger integration, and consulting experience. He has provided business advice to senior management and boards of directors to enhance risk management and control cultures of internal and external clients. Mr. Anderson has held senior leadership roles in Wachovia Corporation (now a subsidiary of Wells Fargo), Bank of America, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mellon Financial Corporation (now Bank of New York–Mellon), and the former Arthur Andersen & Co.

Brian Barnier, principal, ValueBridge Advisors, is an analyst, advisor, and teacher of “what works” in management of risk to performance.
