In Chapter 21, "Basic Concepts of Relational Databases," you learned how to access data stored in databases by using a universal data-manipulation language, SQL, and the Transact-SQL (T-SQL) extensions of SQL Server 2008. However, you can't maintain a real database by executing SQL statements from within SQL Server's Management Studio. You need special applications that access the database, display relevant data on a Windows or web form, and submit the changes made to the data by the user back to the database.
