The major components of the MATLAB environment are as follows:

The MATLAB desktop is shown in Figure 1.2. It has main menu bar, the shortcut icons for opening, closing files, cut, copy and paste, icons for Simulink, etc. Further, it has the Current Directory Window, Workspace Window, Command History Window and Command Window. This is the desktop in its default mode. It can be configured differently by the user using the ‘desktop’ option from the main menu. In this, the user can select the different windows that are desired to be part of the MATLAB desktop.
