Texturing and Lighting an Environment, Part 1

In this chapter and Chapter 8, “Texturing and Lighting an Environment, Part 2,” you will texture and light an interior room with skylights. The goal is to re-create the natural look of sunlight arriving from above. Several advanced techniques are discussed, including global illumination, mental ray portal lighting, and specialized Maya material and mental ray shader use. This chapter, which contains part 1 of the project, will guide you through the following steps:

  • Preparing the scene
  • Assigning materials
  • Setting up the skylights
  • Adding textures
  • Activating Global Illumination
