14. Using Statistical Functions

Statistics in Excel fall into three broad categories:

Descriptive statistics that describe a data set—These include measures of central tendency and dispersion.

Regression tools—These allow you to predict future values based on past values.

Inferential statistics—This type of statistic allows you to predict the likelihood of an event happening, based on a sample of a population.

Table 14.1 provides an alphabetical list of all the Excel 2010 statistical functions. Detailed examples of the functions are provided in the remainder of the chapter.
