In Project Server, calendars are used by the scheduling engine to understand how the unique calendar events such as holidays, alternate work schedules, and so forth, affect the plan for accomplishing the project objectives. Out of the box, the Standard calendar defines a work day as 8AM to 5PM (with an hour off for lunch), Monday through Friday. Holidays are not scheduled in the Standard calendar.
