Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) is the lingua franca of the World Wide Web. Hypertext refers to a computer document that has cross-references (hyperlinks) to other related documents, which are accessible from the local machine or other, networked computers. When you select (click) a hyperlink, a web browser on your computer displays the linked document.
