Insights address the core set of BI and analytical features of SharePoint Server 2010, including Excel Services, PerformancePoint Services, and Visio Services.
The BI capabilities in 2010, combined with SQL Server 2008 R2 and client components in Excel 2010, allow for deeper analytics on very large data sets. Power Pivot for SharePoint greatly enhances performance when querying and calculating extra-large Excel datasheets that include millions of rows, and improves compression scalability and tighter integration with Excel 2010. Power Pivot provides the ability for users to create and share Excel 2010 workbook applications through SharePoint Server 2010.
