Terminology and Fundamental Architecture

Quite often, when discussing SharePoint deployments, you find that people might refer to SharePoint sites as “Webs,” and vice versa, which can cause confusion and lead to misunderstanding when planning a SharePoint deployment. A Web in SharePoint is in fact the technical, or programmatic, term to define a subsite within a SharePoint site collection. SharePoint developers are more likely to refer to a SharePoint (sub)site as a Web, which more closely references the methods in the SharePoint API.
