Behind the Scenes: The _CTS Folder

Each SharePoint site includes a hidden resource folder named _cts, which stores files related to a site’s content types. For instance, the out-of-the-box Document Set content type includes an ASPX page named docsethomepage.aspx, which you can access via the _cts folder. As you create custom content types, those content types and associated files can also be accessed via the _cts folder.

You can access the _cts in SharePoint Designer via the All Files tab in the left-hand navigation, shown in Figure 9.5. You can also directly access a content type’s document template by entering the respected path to the content type via the site’s _cts folder into the browser’s address line like the following:
