Creating New Publishing Columns

In the previous exercise, you added some columns to the Events content type, but you were only able to add columns from existing site columns. If you want to create a new column then, ordinarily, you do so by clicking on Site Columns in the left-hand menu and then clicking the New Column command in the ribbon’s New group. However, columns of publishing type are not available in SharePoint Designer and, instead, you must create new columns of publishing type via the Web interface, shown in Figure 15.38.
