Creating a New Master Page from a Starter Master Template

If you are more familiar with master pages and SharePoint 2010, there are several starter master pages available that you can use as the basis for creating new SharePoint 2010 master pages. Starter master pages include SharePoint controls and content placeholders, which are required by SharePoint 2010 sites. However, starter master pages come with minimal HTML markup, so you need to invest additional time and effort in creating them.
