Chapter 29. Database System Tuning
As we saw in Chapter 3, one of the responsibilities of the DBA is to tune the system monitor and performance tune the SQL Server solution. When deciding on a tuning methodology there are basically two approaches you can take:
Proactive approach. You monitor your SQL Server solution and tune the database system when you notice capacity reaching resource limits.
Reactive approach. You wait until events occur, such as users complaining about slow queries or batch processes failing and then tune the database system as required.
