Preinstallation Tasks

You perform preinstallation tasks before installing Windows XP Professional. Preinstallation tasks can include the following:

  • Target analysis. Before installing Windows XP Professional, you can analyze the target computer to ensure that it meets the requirements you specified in your deployment plan (see Chapter 1).

  • User state migration. When you migrate user state, you save user settings and data to external media or a network location so you can restore those settings and data after installing Windows XP Professional. See the section "State Migration," later in this chapter.
