InterVLAN Routing
Once you’ve configured a switch to support multiple VLANs, each VLAN is its own broadcast domain, just as if the two VLANs were on two completely separate switches and networks. There is no way for data to get from one VLAN to another unless you use a router. The process of making a router work between two VLANs is called interVLAN routing. Figure 7.7 shows one possible way to connect two VLANs with a single router. Note that the router has one port connected to VLAN 100 and another connected to VLAN 200. Devices on VLAN 100 may now communicate with devices on VLAN 200.
