On May 16, 2013, at a Google I/O conference, an integrated development environment (IDE) was released by Katherine Chou under the Apache license 2.0 and was called Android Studio for developing apps on the Android platform. It entered the beta stage in 2014, and its first stable release was on December 2014, starting with version 1.0. It was announced as an official IDE on September 15, 2015.
