Preface
Model-based systems engineering (MBSE) has changed the way we practice systems engineering, affecting the design, development, and management of complex systems. For over 20 years, I have been part of the MBSE community and have seen it grow, noting the changes and new ideas that have emerged.
During my experience, I have read many books about MBSE that provide useful insights. However, I often noticed a lack of a comprehensive resource linking theory to practice, with practical examples to illustrate MBSE applications. This understanding motivated me to write the book I wished existed when I started learning about MBSE. I want to create a resource for readers at different levels, from beginners wanting to understand the basics to experienced professionals wanting to deepen their knowledge.
The goal of this first book is to make the concepts of MBSE understandable for a wide audience, including students, professionals, researchers, and decision-makers; the very practical aspects will be the subject of another book. Through this book, I aim to share complex ideas in a straightforward and engaging way, using comparisons, images, and real-life examples to facilitate understanding. It is essential to note that this book does not favor specific MBSE methodologies or tools. Instead, it is designed to help you grasp the fundamental ideas and principles that underpin these methodologies.
