I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Foreword
I studied computer science at university, and of course I completed several modules called “software engineering” or variations on the name.
I was not new to programming when I started my degree and had already implemented a fully working inventory system for my high school’s Careers Library. I remember being extremely confused by “software engineering.” It all seemed designed to get in the way of actually writing code and delivering an application.
When I graduated in the early years of this century, I worked in the IT department for a large car company. As you’d expect, they were big on software engineering. It’s here I saw my first (but certainly not my last!) Gantt chart, and it’s where I experienced waterfall development. That ...
