Most technical books go out of date soon after they are published, or even before they hit the shelves! My first book, Practical Vim, is a rare exception. In that book, I chose to focus on Vim’s core features. And because Vim has been around since the early 1990s, it’s a mature and stable piece of software.
But Vim continues to evolve. With the release of version 8, Vim gained exciting new abilities. I wanted to write about some of those new features, but I felt that they were out of scope for Practical Vim. That’s how the idea for writing Modern Vim came about.
