Getting Noticed
Acts and bands are still often discovered through local personalities: radio station DJs, local promoters, and record storeowners who inform regional label distribution and promoters about the “local buzz” an act is creating. Without the band’s knowledge, labels have personalities, street promotion, or regional employees attend a live performance to determine the act’s potential. Often the response of the audience is seen as just as important as the band’s actual quality of performance. The band’s originality, uniqueness, age, industry knowledge, and sellable image are also evaluated to determine if they can be molded or developed into a major recording act.
