Preface
The day after I got married, I was involved in a horrific burns accident. Family, friends and total strangers were remarkable in their care and concern. But work — not so much. It was the first time I realised how truly disposable a middle manager was, and that truth hurt more than the scars.
Fast‐forward a decade, and my executive role at one of Australia's largest employers taught me that middle managers played an outsized role in the success or failure of all our initiatives, and yet we invested less than 10 per cent of our development budget on them.
An obsession was born.
This book is for middle managers everywhere. But also for my husband who never doubts me, my family who are excited for me, my best friends who push me, my kids who inspire me, and the witch who saved my face (true story — ask me.)
