Managing Apps

You'll want to manage the apps you obtain, at the very least to get updates and to uninstall apps you don't like or use. Updates can resolve problems with apps you use, and uninstalling apps you don't like can help you keep your Xoom from getting cluttered with unnecessary data, so both are important tasks.

HELP! I'M LOST IN THE MARKET! If you're lost in the Market and can't find your way to the Home page, tap the Market icon in the top-left corner. If you're really lost, you may have to tap it once more. If necessary, tap Android Apps or Books, as desired.

CHECKING FOR AND INSTALLING APP UPDATES

Manufacturers often offer updates to their apps to add features, enhance quality, or add additional data. When an update for an app you own or have downloaded is available, you'll receive a notification on the status bar on your Xoom. Tap that notification to open the Market app and view information about the update. You can also check for updates manually. If you check for updates manually, in the Market, under My Apps, updated apps will have Update listed next to them (Figure 6-7).

HOW DO I KNOW IF I SHOULD INSTALL THE UPDATE? When notified of an update, in the Market, tap See Details, as shown in Figure 6-7, to review what's new in the update. From the same page, you can read any new reviews that have been added since you were last on the page. If the reviews claim the update doesn't work properly, don't install it. Otherwise, it's most likely OK to install the update. ...
