Within the maker community, one of the most popular applications of electric motors involves spinning the propellers of a quadcopter. Quadcopters and other remotely piloted aircraft have received a great deal of attention in recent years, and corporations are eager to use them to deliver goods and provide ground imagery. At the same time, skeptics worry that their usage threatens personal privacy.
No matter which side of the controversy you take, there can be no question that building a quadcopter is an exciting challenge. In addition to electrical engineering, a designer must be familiar with concepts from mechanical engineering and aeronautical engineering.
