Patterns in representation and understanding

Abstract

A pattern is a kind of regularity in a representation space. It involves objective aspects and subjective aspects. The pattern in a set of physical objects reflects objective regularity. The objects leave images in mind when humans observe and understand them. These images emerge patterns during understanding and thinking. The patterns in mind are subjective, reflecting the objective patterns, but vary with the dimensions in mind and change of interest. Patterns at a high abstraction level are formed through long-term interactions with a common worldview within a society and influence the formation and evolution of patterns at the lower abstraction level.
