12.1 Necessity of Nanosensors for Trace Explosive Detection

Due to the vast variety of material options exercised in making explosives, the low vapor pressure of several explosive materials precluding their easy detection, and the copious trickeries by which explosives can be concealed, there is a desperate need for high sensitivity/selectivity nanosensors to detect explosives in minuscule quantities. Table 12.1 presents a few commonly used explosives (Senesac and Thundat 2008).
