Social capital is a widely used term referring to the norms and networks that enable a collective action It is the societal cooperation of a people, enveloping relationships, institutions, and customs that shape a society’s social interactions.

This societal cooperation is an ″invisible hand″ according to Adam Smith in his 1776 book Wealth of Nations.
