Chapter 11. Care of the Client with Disorders of the Neurological System
Neurological assessment and function is an integral part of many aspects of nursing. Disorders in the neurological system can be due to several causes such as direct injuries to the brain and spinal cord because of trauma or deficiencies in neurotransmitters. Figure 11.1 shows a picture of the brain and spinal cord. These disorders can be acute and life-threatening or chronic with gradual progression. The nurse reviewer must be knowledgeable of the implications of neurological disorders, as well as essential assessment and monitoring techniques.
