Editing in the nonlinear environment offers many new opportunities for editors to take control of the programme they are working on. A large part of this control is in how the project is managed. Nonlinear editing systems offer sophisticated data management systems, which will allow shots to be located by category (MS, CU, BCU, etc.) for rapid retrieval. It is in the management of the media that the editor has considerable control.
