So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Editing in the nonlinear environment offers many new opportunities for editors to take control of the programme they are working on. A large part of this control is in how the project is managed. Nonlinear editing systems offer sophisticated data management systems, which will allow shots to be located by category (MS, CU, BCU, etc.) for rapid retrieval. It is in the management of the media that the editor has considerable control. As shots are captured and named a database is built up which, if created logically and with some structure, will allow very nearly instant access to all shots that are available on the hard drives and even quick access to those shots still on tape.
